Special Note on V5 form Accident

I viewed a car today and on the front page of the V5, it had special notes. 1. New from first registration, then 2. Major repairs / accident, identity checked.

I was concerned by note 2. It read something like that. What does it mean? Should it put me off buying the car?

buying may not be an issue, reselling could be a problem , really depends on what you are paying for the vehicle and exactly what repairs have been done.

It means the car has at some point in its life been in an accident. It was an insurance write off under category C and its structure / chassis may have sustained damage.

With a category C write off, you cannot get a registration document for it unless it has been checked by VOSA following repair (this one has been checked).

I personally would avoid it like the plague.
It means that the vehicle a some point in its life has been damaged, and following an identity check the v5 has been released to allow the vehicle back onto the road. It is NOT a measure of any repairs being completed or indeed assessed
