Ford Focus electric window problem

When opening or closing the passenger electric window on my son's 2001 Focus it only rises or lowers about three inches at a time, so I have to repeatedly press the button to close it. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong?

Hi Pitboard, I think I can answer a sensible Q, I would first try the switch, can you remove the switch & use WD40 on the connectors & the BUTTON itself? then retry it, I would then try the opp door switch ( If possible) to eliminate the switch, then I would go to Darren's answer.
