How can I report an unroadworthy vehicle?

There's a car near where I live that I believe is not fit to be on the road. It is smashed in at the back with no numberplate (I have the details from the plate at the front) and all the lights are completely smashed, so they light up white instead of red, for example, when breaking. It's really old and a complete wreck and has been out and about on the roads like this for several weeks. Who can I report this to? The police, DVLA etc? I'm not being malicious - I just think it's a danger to other road-users.

Contact your local police station. The DVLA will only be interested if it isn't taxed

Also report it to the Local Council.. they should have a department that deals with dumped vehicles (if you think its dumped!).. if not just report it to them anyway!

Nosha123-what is the point in reporting it to the council?
The vehicle is being used and is clearly not abandoned therefore the locl authority will have no power to deal with it just as the DVLA won't if it already has tax etc.
It is a complete waste of the councils time to pass it to them if it is known to have an owner.

We once had a small white van `dumped` outside our house,It was a bit of wreck and not taxed. We contacted the police but they said as it wasnt illegally parked they could only report to the DVLA about it not being taxed,who would contact the owner and allow him a time to get it taxed etc. which would probably end up being weeks before anything was done. The police told us if it had been on double yellow lines, they could have it removed. Well, it just so happens that as we live near the end of the road, towards the end, there are double yellow lines. The back doors of the van were open, so my husband got in and took off the handbrake, and then with my son, pushed it so it was just on the lines but safely parked. We didnt even have to ring the police again which we thought we would do after a day or two ,because the van was towed away the next day, much to the relief of all our neighbours.
