Hi Is there ANY difference between oils sold for use with cars or motorcycles - in the semi synthetic range 10/40w or is it just a ploy to make you pay more for motorcycle oil & some cases supply it in a 4 litre instead of 5 litre £20 for car (or halfords offer £15.99) 5 ltr or £21.99 for bike 5 ltr as you could pay nearly £30 for 4 litres for bike use Thanks GSR600

it is a ploy my friend! there is no difference between car and motorcycle oils as long as you choose the correct grade for the job eg 10/40. as the man says....it all comes outta the same hole in the ground!

Of course there is a difference !
If you put the equivalent car engine oil in your bike you will have a slipping clutch as this uses the same oil as the engine for lubrication , the bike oil is entirely different because of this.

i dont know just how long TOUREMAN has been riding/working on bikes but in short ,he's cluless! i've been a race bike mechanic (road racing) for the last twenty years and have built at least four iom tt winning engines. i can assure you that the above post by toureman is utter pish!
there are no additives in car oil that will cause a motorcycle wet clutch to slip. a slipping clutch problem will only occur if different grades of oil are mixed...even then clutch slip is very rare!
