I have got a fine from Europarks for parking in Sainsbury's last Sunday whilst shopping. What jurisdiction do they have to enforce that fine. ICan they get my address from DVLA?

I had one from the Sainsbury's in Peterborough and I had to pay £80 as it was a company vehicle. The company that enforced the fine was somewhere in Scotland.
I even saw the little n.o.b. putting the sticker on my window, and he saw me as i was about 20yrds from the vehicle.. he just slapped it on and almost ran off!
I've never used that shop again - never will.

Oooh, this drives me mad. My local Tescos fine you if you are in the car park over 2 hours. But it's one of those huge stores with a cafe, electrical goods, home goods and then of course you might be doing a big food shop. I know when I went with my friend who was buying bits and bobs for her first house we ended up just spending 30 minutes in the home decoration section.
I wish they did what Waitrose do where you pay for parking and then get the money refunded at the till.

there are signs all over these types of car parks now,and by you parking there,you agree to the conditions,yes they can enforce the fine and if you dont pay they will chase you through the courts,and yes DVLA will supply your name and adress to them,if you are the keeper of the car,i would pay this time and be wiser next time i park.

There was a case a few months ago in Swansea where a little girl had an epileptic fit in the car park. She had just been bowling or something, and due to the ambulance attending, they stayed in the car park over the three hours allowed.
Needless to say they were fined, and despite this making the local papers, Euro Car Parks refused to waive the fine, and instead suggested that they would give the fine to charity!!
Takes the pi55 on so many levels.

Private parking companies are not backed by any aspect of criminal law; you have not received a "fine" but rather an invoice to pay a charge for what they deem has been agreed by you for the (mis)use of parking facilities.
The company cannot "enforce the fine", they will need to chase the alleged debt through the civil courts. For the most part they do not do this because there is no guarantee of them winning the case. They prefer to make their money from those who pay without querying the charge.
