New ford faulty after 7 days!! What recompense?

Hi, just wanted to get a few thoughts on this one.
I ordered a brand new fiesta 1.6 tdci zetec climate in march, and finally it arrived end of April, great! However after 7 days (300 miles!) it developed a reoccuring intermittent steering fault, and has gone back to Ford to be fixed. So far 4 days, and no idea of how long they will have it. They HAVE (after some polite insistence on my part) provided a loan car at least. But in the mean time, i am paying insurance and finance interest on a car i cant drive, and missed a day of work taking it in to be sorted. Plus its blinking annoying to have a new car with a fault! Should i ask for some form of recompense for the hassle? And if so how much/what?
Any suggestions? Anyone been in a similar position?
Thanks!

Excellent Rating
Reject the vehicle as being of unsatisfactory quality and ask for a full refund. You are entitled to this under the Sale of Goods Act..

The dealer will try to talk you out of it saying it does not apply to cars, but it does.

Make sure you reject your purchase asap. The longer you leave it the trickier it becomes.

And reject it in the form of a letter, copied to your local trading standards.

Thanks for the replies. I had thought about rejecting it, however the big problem with rejecting it outright, is that i did a P/x on my old car, which is well and truly gone now. So if i reject and ask for a refund, i end up with no car and i really need one for commuting- and i negotiated such a cracking discount for the new car, despite getting a pretty low P/x value, that a refund isnt going to give me enough to play with to get anything else...

I guess i could ask for a totally new car to be built, but thats another 8 weeks wait, by which time they will have mended the fault on the first one.. (hopefully!)

I guess i'm thinking of hanging on to this one, and asking either for a refund of some money, or some free accessories.. What do you think?

Nah, go for an immediate replacement - there must be dozens in stock around the country- they'll tell you there arn't but If I were you i'd go to a separate Ford dealer and pretend i was interested in buying one of their 'stock' cars. You might not get the exact spec y want but then again you might get a cancelled order with lots of bells and whistles and ask them to put it on a 24hr reserve whilst you get your finances sorted. You can then go to YOUR dealers and say 'look, I know for a fact that there is a black Fiesta.....etc....etc, I want oyu to replace mine with that one.

It's a bit devious, but if you don't want them to fob you off you have to be prepared to play them at their own game!

suggest to them , that you may issue a County Court summons against them for "losses incuured " re - while you havent had the car ,,,, if they are not willing to compensate you out of court ,,,,,, but do read the small print , on any "buyers / or finance agreement " , you signed on , taking consignment of the vehicle ....

Hi Kira! I wouldn't hold your breath. All Ford are interested in is selling you a new car. My daughter bought a brand new Street KA convertable on a 05 plate. The very next day the saga started when the alarm wouldnt set - after that it had 47 faults from new!!! after threatening the dealer with the motoring press they agrred to exchange it for another brand new one (06 plate) - in the first year we were up to 20 odd faults. Needless to say she now drives a .CZT mitsubishi. Oh and did u know your interior is only warranted for a year - rest of car three.!!!!

Just out of curiosity - you didn't buy it from Dahenham Motors did you?
