Nissan x trail or a subaru forester?

I'm thinking of changing my freelander and I am considering the above two cars.
I've looked on various sites and really can't decide between the two.
Anyone any personal experience of either car, especially in relation to reliability?

I had a 05 plate X-trail.
April 2005.
After 10 months the clutch started to make a grinding noise.
Reported it to the garage and was told the clutch was not covered on the warrany ! I had only done 8,000 miles.
Anyway they agreed to replace the complete clutch assembly.
After another 6 months it started to make the noises again.
At this point I traded it for a Honda CRV.
Lost lots on the deal. You never come out well only keeping a car for 18 months.

So i have a low opinion of X trails.

Anyone got my old car ?

And before anyone asks ...
I have never had a clutch go on me prior to this car.

Been driving for 25 years and had numerous company cars ...did 100K miles in a few cars from new.
