I put about 7.00 worth of unleaded petrol in my diesel engine before I realised, a guy in the petrol station said it would be ok to just top up with diesel and they would mix, but since then it takes a while to start, I have driven about 40 miles since, will it be ok or should I report it.

who are you going to report it to,fill it up completely with diesel and do it every couple of days for a week or two and it should be ok.
As long as you can dilute it with diesel then it's fine - don't do as Mrs McD did and fill your 90 litre Diesel tank with 90 litres of unleaded and then drive it home !! That's when problems start arguments happen and divorce papers start being drawn up !!!
