Parked Up Lorries

Driving back from Leicester this evening there seemed to be a lot of lorries pulled up for the night in lay-bys which prompts two questions Why do the drivers open the rear doors of the trailers? and why do they park with the cab "jack-knifed" into the kerb?
I assume the doors are to show the trailer is empty but doesn't that identify the ones that aren't?
Thanks in advance

hi
thieves often slash the side of curtainsiders to see what booty they can steal.
leaving the doors open saves them the trouble (and an expensive repair bill for the haulier)
i can see your point re the ones that are left closed however high value loads arent usually left in laybys or insecure parking areas anyway.

the reason for parking skew wiff or jackknifed as you say is to prevent the cabs mirrors being struck by a vehicle travelling too close to the side of the road preventing another expensive repair bill! especially if the other vehicle doesnt stop to give his details.
hope this helps
baz
another reason for parking a vehicle with wheels facing into kerb is that if the vehicle is hit from behind at any point, the lorry will not then travel into the road but should travel away from the road.
