Figures collected by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicate the number of registered deaths caused by "Land transport accidents involving pedestrians, pedal cyclists, motor cyclists and occupants of motor vehicles" during 2005 are:

Females - 2,252
Males --.-- .---678

2005 - m 2,252 : f 678
2004 - m 2,252 : f 761
2003 - m 2,398 : f 838
2002 - m 2,412 : f 772
I must apologise further... it was late when I posted my previous answers!

The figures I gave relate to England & Wales only.

If you want the total for the UK you must include those of Scotland & NI.
