www.bell.co.uk try and put a parent on policy as it helps reduce quote even i they dont actually drive your car but own 1. Good luck!
My learner grandson just got a quote of 417 for a Ka 1300 from First Quote by his mother insuring the car in her name, transfering her NCB and having him as a named driver. She reinsured her car with no NCB cheaper than she was paying before!
It's amazing the difference in quotes you'll be given just by shopping around a little. I'm in the motor trade, and whenever customers have been given ridiculously high quotes, i always recommend trying Tesco online...sometimes the difference is unbelievable.

If you go on autotrader.co.uk they have an insurance search engine - I used that and ended up with some ok quotes, but I was 20 at the time.

You could also have a look at the parkers car guide online, that can tell you the insurance group of any car 1995 onwards. So get a group 1 or 2 for the 1st year. With 1 years NCB my insurance was cut 2/3! But I since wrote off my new car and will soon be looking at 1500 plus... DOH!

Something that is also worth trying or considering is buying a new car that comes with free insurance. The extra cost of the new car is often less than the cost of insurance on a cheap old car. you just have to buy a new car tht the maers wnt to sell loads of because they are overstocked. For example, when I was 19 I put down 800 on a pug 106 on a finance package that came with 2yrs free insurance and finance at 189 per month. After 2 yrs I had 2 years NCB and had driven a new car for two years, giving me fixed price motoring. I imagine I saved over 2000 on insurance in the first two years, plus a decent chunk on NCB follwing that. Look around the mass market manufacturers andsee if anyone's offering free insurance for someone your age (or even for your parents that would allow and additional driver at a young age)
