I have a Honda CBR 600 motorcycle, it has been stood in the garage over winter, I went to start it up today, it is back firing (rather loudly) and I can hear a popping sound coming from, I assume, the spark plug area???

I didnt actually get the bike running, because the back firing was scaring me half to death. Any ideas what the problem could be?

TIA

Sticking valve, probably. Try using an upper cylinder lubricant, (Redex) or similar, directly into plug hole. It will be smoky at first !
I'm surprised there aren't more answers from our regulars !

I would just add that it may help to pour a small amount into the cyclinder via the plug hole and leave it overnight before trying the engine. Let us know how you get on.

D
just let it run through the back firing. In future start it every week
Isn't backfiring an air leak? Did you get it sorted.
