The link will not open, so I presume the driver had the car on Cruise Control & the Control went out of action causing him to speed and hit a HGV is that right? there was another case a few years back when a BMW Driver said that he could not stop the car from speeding as the Accelerator stuck, it was proved, he was lying to avoid prosecution, if this driver would have kicked ? depressed the Pedal, It would have disengaged C.C.
To add, depending how far the key was turned, the steering would have locked up, he would then have been unable to steer the car.
The link does work and I have just read it. How awful. The poor man must have been absolutely terrified. What a dreadful thing to have happened.

I have no idea what happened. I just know that he died. Dreadful.

Trw it's in daily mail
No defects with the car found by very experienced investigators, no attempt to brake before impact, no attempt to engage handbrake or switch off ignition. Either blind panic or deliberate. The man was described by family and friends as a meticulous driver.
^^ The accident investigator also said the accelerator pedal was pushed hard down to the floor !
maybe the pedal jammed, then?
Yes very strange that, Togo.
I also find it strange that he had an 8 minute 999 phone call while his car was allegedly accelerating out of control.

Terrified driver who was decapitated in crash made an EIGHT-MINUTE 999 call as his Skoda sped along motorway at 119mph after car's cruise control 'got stuck'

///depending how far the key was turned, the steering would have locked up, he would then have been unable to steer the car.///

The engine was running, the key was past the steering lock position and no-one has suggested a problem with the steering.
8 minutes on the phone and no attempt to apply breaks of any type? Cruise control stuck and accelerator pedal stuck? One in a billion chance. It's really awful but deliberate is the only explanation that makes sense.
The parked lorry was running a back view camera that shows the car being steered from the middle, then inside lane and towards the layby.

Hazard lights on, select neutral and head for the hard shoulder, no brainer!
His neutral didn't work either....
His brakes and clutch couldn't have worked either !
Starting to look like a suicide with attempt to make it look like an accident!
Yep ^^^^^^

No-one has said it was an Auto, so stick it in neutral

Another link. I had an MSN link earlier but it looks as if it is gone.

Most cruise control systems that I have come across have a cancel facility.
