...you know the scenario: stop start massive queue of traffic and some prat in front of you insists on waiting until a 100 yard gap forms in front of them before creaking into motion ....over and over again!
WHY do people do this? Is it because they don't want to keep changing gears and clutching/de-clutching? Surely this practice just makes the traffic jam worse, especially if there are a few others dotted up and down the queue doing it.

Aaagh!

What about the ones who give 2 flashes of their indicators before turning, a bit more warning and you could have pulled out and be well away.

Well, I moan about "gap makers" but I will seize the opportunity to change lanes if there is one on a two/three lane jam and it gets me in front of them. I'll indicate for as long as I have in this scenario!
I don't see it makes much difference to the queue but it does save wear on the clutch. Be honest a 100 yard gap is an overestimate more like 20 yards.
I don't see a problem with doing that to be honest, it saves wear and tare and It reduces the amount of times you have stop and start, I don't do it, but it really doesn't bother me when others do it.
Keep taking the pills A.P. they do work, Honestly.
You won't like following me in traffic jams AP. In my automatic I just drop the handbrake and let the car creep to the next stop - just a few mph. I'm always amused by the ones who dive in and out of different lanes - I always seem to pass them at some point by staying in the same lane.
Bhj, our journeys M6 South used to happen more often on a Mon, on passing the A5 Cannock, the traffic queued up 3 lanes, you used to see these idiot as regular as clockwork jumping from lane to lane, by the time we got to Walsall the idiots were still there about 4 cars in front. you had to laugh.
Nearly involved in a pile up yesterday. There was a car in the 'slow' lane and I was approaching in the middle 'overtaking' lane about two lengths gap behind. Suddenly a car came flying up the slow lane, undertook me and pulled in front of me without even changing speed. Back to the question - I agree with Ratter. Proceeding slowly in congested traffic saves wear and tear, fuel and stress.
What pees me off more than that is people darting into my braking distance. It just means I have to keep easing back to maintain it just because of some ignoramus who is going nowhere quick!
I was approaching in the //middle 'overtaking' lane //about two lengths gap behind.

???
Because it makes common sense and has little if any impact on the flow of traffic.
In fact it probably keeps the traffic moving. You also have a chance to take evasive action should some clown come roaring up behind you while they are busy sending a text.

"Keep taking the pills A.P. they do work, Honestly".
Why would you say that? Unless you have a pharmaceutical condition and you think I also have the same one.

So basically AB is full of gap makers!
There are far bigger things to worry about AP.

Do you think it makes you arrive later then?
What is wrong with it is that it holds you back whilst others undertake and op in, in front of them and you. Regardless of how much overall difference it makes to the journey, that is frustrating it's like you are being deliberately messed with for the amusement of the person deliberately choosing to hold up everything behind them for the benefit of those in the other lane. Inconsiderate of others and their peace of mind.

A similar thing can happen at multiple lanes at the traffic light junction. You get someone who need a bus length space between them and the vehicle (or white line) in front, so you approach and chose the shortest lane, except these jokers have got you to join the long lane, and your chance of getting through next time is reduced because, their lane happened to consist of fewer vehicles after all, and they get the amusement of getting through knowing you may well end up waiting a second time.

People should be thoughtful and more considerate. Other drivers can be a stress.
People being more considerate OG, you have more chance of the pope inviting you for tea, I'm afraid that's the trouble with people today! Me Me Me.
