They come do the job and go,

They come do the job and go.

They come, inspect, spray white paint and go.

The so called road maintenance gangs,

Why is it that the come & dig up the road, then fill it I again only to find the same hole repaired by the Highways Dept, why can't the Original Company do the job right in the first place? if the job is not done to the specific standards they should be fined.

and left for days , without ever seeing any body working at the site .

Boris appears to have a good idea here , which would work for the rest of the country ( although i don't know what 'tough-ish' would mean

//The whole system is a disgrace, and that is why London is now pioneering the first partial remedy. Together with 16 boroughs, we are launching a permit scheme, so that these companies will have to apply for a time-limited permit to do their work and face tough-ish fines if they overrun.//
The first repair is a temporary 'fix' until the Highways dept can do a 'permanent repair' . That is the theory any way !
As Eddie says, the replaced soil needs to settle before a final repair can be made.
Does that apply to pot holes as well Eddie. They are "repaired" I use that term loosely. Then a few months later the repair is breaking up again and is a repair again. Tax payers paying twice for the same job.
