Vauxhall Combo Van Question

I have the above van. It's a 05 plate and a 1.3 version.

It's pretty gutless but as im not a speed freak, im not fussed at pottering along at 55/60.

However, if i ever accelerate hard-ish or uphill, a light comes on the dashboard and it cuts the van out. I take my foot off the gas, the light goes out and i carry on, although it feels very restricted. On the next trip, it seems to reset and go on as normal.

The light in question is a pic of a car with a spanner through it.

I've learned to deal with this but just wandered what it might be....it's like the van is restricted.

Any clues ?

Dirty or clogged air filter?
Spanner always means a service of some kind is needed.

How on earth did we lose to Arsenal!?
I have a Vauxhall, that light means 'Urgent service needed' you have to take it to a Vauxhall service centre ASAP ! There is an engine fault!
It doesn't have to be a Vauxhall service centre.

Your friendly local garage should be able to do it, as long as they have the equipment to read the fault codes.
Your van is going into 'limp mode' that is why it is 'very restricted'. You are supposed to 'limp' to the nearest garage to get the car fixed.

But it only goes into this "limp mode" for about a second....then it might carry on as normal for a week or two or until i overtake a slow lorry going up a hill. I then take my foot off the gas and continue as normal.
It needs looking at, my handbook says you should go to a dealer and get it checked as soon as you see that light as it indicates an engine fault. A Vauxhall dealer will have the diagnostic computer that will tell them what the fault is. Some other garages may have the equipment but you need to phone and check first.
That van should do more than 55/60 something is wrong!
