MOT and wing mirror

Recently had the plastic backing plate from my passenger side mirror break. Since it's the backing plate and not the glass I can't get a replacement from Halfords and Nissan want £37.50 which I'm not happy to fork over at present.

Currently I've fixed the assembly back in and secured it using that silver multi-purpose tape. It's not about to fall out.

Due the MOT in the next few weeks. As I understand it, the vehicle is only required to have one wing mirror. So before I send her off to be tested to I leave it as is with my "DIY" fix in place, or take it out so it's clean, blank and very un-mirror-like?

You are required to have a drivers side wing mirror and either an internal mirror or a passenger side wing mirror. "Any mirrors additional to the obligatory mirrors are not subject to this inspection"

Check ebay.
A vehicle should have two mirrors. One of these can be the interior mirror providing that you can see out of the back of the vehicle. i.e. A normal car can pass the MOT with one wing mirror, but a van with blacked out rear windows can't.

So as long as it's the near side mirror damaged and it's secure and doesn't have any jagged edges likely to hurt pedestrians, (which could cause it to fail in another section) then it's not tested.

lol TWR I already have. I've also checked loads of places online. For my Micra which is an 02 plate K11 (just before the new model replaced it) the mirror dealers seem to sell either a) replacement glass or c) replacement wing mirror (complete) whereas I need b) replacement glass and backing plate. Sod's law I think.
Before changing my car recently, my previous car passed the previous 2 MOT's with the passenger wing mirror held together with strong tape.
Are there any vehicle dismantlers close to where you live that might have a wrecked model that you could get a wing mirror off.

furrypusscat - there are, but I feel like I may be accosted by large men with rough hands. I think for now it's going to be the tape jobby. I'm not keeping it long, so I'll just consider it boho chic.

Hi Jake - thanks but I'd been on that site. They have what I need, but only for the newer model 2003 onwards which has a different glass shape and wing design.
