Unusual vehicle registration plates

I saw a small convoy of vehicles with strange numberplates in south east Essex this morning.

The first was a very large military type truck followed by several unmarked private cars and a van, all left-hand drive. They all had bold yellow on black numberplates front and rear with only numbers, all starting with '65'.

Anyone have a suggestion of where they may be from?

Sounds like the Southend on Sea OAP left hand drive club out on their annual run to the sun to me.
India!

Well, thanks for both suggestions; but the drivers were neither OAPs or Indian.

Also, I live in Southend and the sun is only allowed to appear here for one hour a week - otherwise it interfers with the rainful.
I was about to suggest an American military base, but that would sound so prosaic when compared with members of the Indian geriatric left-handed drivers' club. Much more plausible!

It's okay, I have solved the mystery. They were a special unit of a little known military force from Luxembourg sneaking in to take over the country.
Phew - that's a relief.
more likely come over here to return the 20m that bob diamond ain't getting, it will have been stashed in zurich until now.
