Bike/Car Oil

I am completely ignorant of these things, so I suspect this is a pretty stupid question, but here goes......

I have some 15w 50 oil for my bike - what damage, if any, would I do to my car if I topped up with my bike oil: my car recommends 10w 40?

My totally inexpert opinion is, none. It may not protect as well but I don't expect it to actually casing damage. Now I duck as everyone tells me I'm wrong :-)

IIRC the figures are to do with how thick the oil is. Cold & hot. Thinner oil has lower numbers so is less able to stay on the surfaces to be protected. Unsure if the mix would be a problem though. Suspect not.

Do not top up your car with bike oil!

They are completely different.

Bikes have wet clutches, bike oil is formulated to cope with that, it is also formulated to cope with the much higher revs on a bike engine.

Im hope your using the correct oil for your bike, if not that could cause problems as well.

Only top up with the correct oil for your car engine, using 15w 50 oil could cause damage!

I have a Ducati which I believe has a dry clutch (whatever the hell that means!). Would that make a difference?

I bought the oil from my Ducati dealer.

You seem to have a good bike, learn more about it, yes the Ducaty are one of the few bikes that has a dry clutch which means the oil never reaches the clutch, the same as cars.

If you bought the oil from a Ducaty dealer and if you told them if it was for your Ducaty it should be OK.
