You need to check the gearshift linkage from th remote underneath .. to the gearbox input. Check for wear in and connection, too. These are often nylon .. If worn, you may need to change part.
Transmission: A lot of Japanese cars have a drain point but no refill/level plug. I don't have a munual for that transmission, but you need to loog at the forward face of gearbox for a hex or allem key plug. If fitted, this will be the level to fill to.
They regard transmissions nowadays as "filled for life" lol ..
In this case, you can only fill through any gap into gearbox (like speedo drive plug or driveshaft socket. You have to remove bits for that!)
