Anywhere In the UK

that's what I thought, but for all I know it could be Canada or a normally snowy country.

I really can't answer, but that said, I cannot ever recall seeing a UK car using these. Didn't even know you could get them!

They are easy to get from any Halfords store price £67.99
I can'r see many of those being sold when we have about an inch or two of snow twice a year.
I'd considered getting some as I have a 40 mile drive to work some of which is cross country. Possible problem is that some roads are cleared and others aren't and it may either be unsafe or damaging to the tyres to use chains on a clear road. Anyone got any thoughts?
Snow chains??? Only a mug would buy those in the UK. Are you getting different weather from that which is reported on the news/weather?
Ask Halfords or whoever sells them. They should either know the legal requirements or not be selling them !!
I doubt I'll actually get any and if I did you can guarantee they'd be in the garage when I needed them but there have been two or three ocassions over the last few years when I've struggled to get into work. 3 inches of snow plays havoc with a Toyota Avensis. As far as the cost is concerned it's less than one day's lost wages.
Well that's the UK for you. Winters so mild, especially recently, I've never before considered chains: which is probably why, until a few minutes ago, I assumed in colder countries one fitted chains for the winter and left them on until spring. I did wonder what happened to the road surface when one reached the cleared motorway. Now I understand one only keeps the chains on for the 20 to 30 yards of local road until a clear road is reached, and then one has to take the darn things off again ! And reverse the process on the way back. Must be an easier way surely. Too much fussing about unless a trip is vital.
