VW passat alrm going off at night

I have a 1999 VW passat, (had from new) the alarm has started to go off at night, but without any indicators or any other lights comming on, just the two tone alarm, it activates for about 20 seconds and stops.

Whose to blame

Had this exact question last week on this thread, turns out my boot lock was faulty. Moisture had got into the microswitch and caused it to go off (especially at night!!!) VW have ordered me a new one, didnt cost much and they seem quite straight forward to fit. THey only charged me �20 to do a diagnostic and that showed up the fault. Hope this helps.
