Can anyone help me out with a ball park figure for the cost of having a cam belt replaced on a 1997 Renault Megane. It was recommended that I have it done and it has been on my mind anyway but can anyone tell me what to expect to have to pay a garage to have it done? Thanks in advance.

we would charge you around the 160/180 figure, double if you let renault do it.
Just had my cambelt renewed on a 2002 Laguna by Renault as independants wouldn't do it, cost 320, cheaper than the espace, as the engine has to be removed, 960, don't get an espace!
hi toureman, why wouldent the local garage do it,we have done a few lagunas over the last 6 months,a bit of a job,but not that hard.
Krusty.I was charged 120 for a cam belt change on a 1998 laguna about 18months ago(use a local garage don't go to a dealer),that is just the belt of course.it will run into 100's more if the pullys had to be changed but this is not case most of the time ...so i think anything from140-180 would be ok,any more and you've got to start asking your self,it it worth spending big money on a car worth about a grand!...good luck
Hi Norman, you probably don't live in the boondocks of Anglesey like me. My nearest Renault garage is a 40 mile drive.

Local garage is ok with Austins and Morris cars.
fair point mate,no i live in harpenden in herts

My thanks to you all for your replies. To dave21, I know what you mean but finding 200 is easier than finding another grand to replace the car.
