Have a small hole in head gasket on my car, mechanic tells me he can seal it rather than needing to replace it, how successful are these fix's? he tells me 9 times out of 10 they hold for quite some time?

Products like Steel seal can work...but its down to luck and the position of the gasket leak. There may be tell-tale signs left in your cooling system and this may put off any clued up future buyers. The best choice is to replace the head gasket.
I would go with Bright on this, that one out of ten could be in the 3rd lane Bread, if you are handy with Engines, you can take the head off in a couple of hours, the head will then need to be skimmed.
