I've had this one for just over a year - perfect, although it has been replaced by an updated model. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00F5WPB2K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 If you read the reviews, I am KD. I've had this one for just over a year - perfect, although it has been replaced by an updated model.

I bought the model with GPS because I like gimmicks. I also bought the model with included memory which is a waste of time - memory cards are much better as they hold more data and it's easier to get the data into your computer. As a rough guide a 32GB memory card will record for about 6 hours at full HD - you can set it to over-write, thus always retaining the last 6 hour's of video, or stop recording.

yeah look on amazon you can get them as cheap as a £tenner but will have to buy a sd card, some supply them for a couple of quid more
The cheap ones are rubbish. Complicated, unreliable and instructions in pigeon English translated from Chinese by someone who doesn't even know where England is. Anything under £100 in my book is a waste of money when you consider what may be at stake.
I bought a cheap one from Maplins and it is indeed ...rubbish.
I just went off and researched, the G1W range seems to be a pretty good/popular choice.
I have a cheap E-Prancer too, but a different model. Came with a 32GB card, front and rear cameras and has worked perfectly for 10 months.

I wasn't expecting much for the price but I am very impressed.
Maybe I should get one of those ;-)

Thanks everyone, gone with bhg481 as well as those who suggested e prance. I think sometimes just having a dash cam makes other driver a bit more cautious around you. I still wanted to have footage that I could use if needed though, I see some very dodgy driving on my way into Manchester every day, might even get some laughs too.

Thanks once again everyone, much appreciated

I recommend this free software for you, Shiznit.

http://www.datakam.com/download/

It's a Russian site which I found from reading reviews on Amazon but it seems perfectly safe. The software is far better than the package that comes with the Eprance. You can vary the playback speed and, if you have several journeys on a card, it will group them for you. For example, the other day we went to Bristol, stayed there for a couple of hours and bought fuel on the return journey. It recognised that as 2 trips, assuming the fuel stop was part of the return journey and not a separate trip. It also calculated the miles travelled for each journey and the time it took (bearing in mind I bought the model with GPS).
This software will work with other makes of dashcam too.
My pc gave me a warning when I tried to download that software - it may harm my pc.
Doesn't one need cameras pointing in all four (or more) directions ?

Last time I was involved in an incident it was some idiot hitting me in the side/back wheel area from a lane that didn't even exist ! (I didn't see him until afterwards, I guess he must've been driving over the grass.)
I just tried again hc4361 and got no warning from my system.
I've been using the software for over a month now - no problems, no spam and no viruses.

I did some further research after being inspired by this thread and have just bought a Nextbase 402G. It is a clone of the DOD LS430W which is renowned for its high image quality, particularly in low light levels. It comes with GPS and all the usual features of a fairly high up dashcam.
It scored highly in Which and I'm looking forward to using it for the first time tomorrow. Will report back my findings.
Look forward to the review, AP
Amazon : Dash cam & 32g SD card under £19 and I have it in my car now. Every time I start my car the cam starts automatically and switches off when the ignition is switched off. Check the Sd card on my computer and remove any unwanted data easily.
