"insp" shows on odometer

03 plate vauxhall astra estate.when switching on "insp"appears where normally the odometer reading is.once started it disappears & the normal odometer reading comes back.a nuisance really.is there any way to stop this occurring?

It's telling you it needs a service.

You can turn the warning off yourself by putting the key in the ignition but don't turn it, hold down the trip counter reset knob, start the car while continuing to hold down the trip reset, keep it pressed in for 10seconds then release it.

Keep in mind this only resets the light, it still needs a service, unless it was...

Does it mean it's due for a service !
It's telling you it needs a service.

Keep in mind this only resets the light, it still needs a service, unless it was serviced recently and the garage didn't reset the warning counter.

Same thing with my Vectra.
Are you sure the same "insp" light doesn't come on if there is another problem with the car? See what your handbook says about it.
