Clive Hornby aka Jack Sugden
I know there have been a few posts about the tragic death of Clive Hornby but on the news tonight it said that before he died he made it clear that his illness was never to be revealed !
I'm puzzled. I wonder what it was ??

I can't imagine what it would be, that would need to be concealed. Perhaps he was HIV positive. Obviously keeping his illness secret will cause many of us to speculate, but I guess at the end of the day, it's his right to privacy.

My hubby said maybe he had aids but I can't imagine that to be true. You are right to say it was up to him, but you are also right that people will speculate.
Poor man, very sad. Is Sheila Mercier (Annie Sugden) still alive ??

Don't know why you believe a person can be immune from Aids.
Maybe we'll never know.

I've never heard much about him privately. I know he has a son in his twenties, but don't know is he's married or in some other relationship.
He exited the show quite suddenly, so perhaps he was diagnosed with some form of aggressive cancer and it was too late to treat. it's a shame, as he wasn't very old.

He was divorced from Helen Weir who played his on screen wife Pat, the mother of Robert Sugden.
Ethel, you are right, he could have had an aids related illness without being gay. Never thought of that !

he was married 3 times and had 5 children, just because he wanted to keep his illness a secret people speculate that it was something awful like aids(not that any illness isnt awful) but perhaps he just didnt want people prying into his private life, he seemed a private person.
