If he wishes to come here to insult the English and their choice to Brexit
Why doesn't he (a)stay back in Ireland and (b) why do people make him a millionaire for being insulted by him?
Perhaps if he had spent more time concerning himself with his own family rather than castigating all and sundry for not following his lead in political posturing and virtue signalling around the world then his family may of been larger. He must of heard the song about 'The drugs don't work'

AMEN !
The mind can start to go as one gets older. In his case it's quite dramatic, perhaps because he is so rich he doesn't have to give a damn.
I met him at a party in Paris in 1980 -he was quite nice, very intelligent and quite unassuming. I think Band Aid went to his head and he thought he was the second coming. Now he is just an embarrassment like many other ageing stars of the 70's . To be honest I don't think hes that rich is he? not like Jagger or McCartney.
The Boomtown Rats are/were a Punk Rock outfit.
They are not Aled Jones or Enya.
It is stupid to go to seem them and expect anything different. Geldof is a well known kn*bhead. So a bit of a non story.
I doubt many went to see The Boomtown Rats it was a festival other better were available.

Punk rock?
When?
People like Geldof or Bono, or Sting, are no more qualified to lecture than anyone here in AB. It's just their fame attracts the press .
better bands ^

or to put it another way, people on AB are no more qualified to lecture than Geldof is. Doesn't stop ony of them, though, so I don't see why it should stop Geldof.

As everyone knows he is a bit of a k**bhead then it says
much of those pay to
oh dear saint Bob, did the nasty wasty public vote the "wrong" way did they!
That is absolutely dreadful. There is a lot that I could say, but perhaps it boils down to 'He should have his knighthood stripped'. Could he be sent back to Eire and have his passport stopped?
We get banned or censured for vile and abusive language. Oh and it doesn't cost you to get in. Perhaps the people who find it entertaining and amusing elsewhere, are really only being deliberately precious, or faux offended on the "bank".
jno - people on AB only talk to other members of AB. Geldorf is slightly more high-profile!
Always the trouble at events with more than one act on, hope the fans of Tony Hadley and ABC enjoyed the earlier slots in the evening.

much of those who pay to be insulted by him and place him on his tub thumping pedestal. Soap taken externally plus orally wouldn't go amiss.
Perhaps he should perform for nothing and then his audience could afford to dress like he does. Personally I think clean clothes from Primart could only improve his own personal appearance. :-)
I thought from your OP that Sir Bob was at a speaking engagement, but it seems it was a festival.

Logically therefore, people paid to see The Boomtown Rats, and other artists so they didn’t actually pay to hear him ‘speak’ per se.

It sounds as though he may have overdone the refreshments before coming on, which explains but does not excuse his behaviour.

I don’t think you can call him ‘untalented’ – clearly that is not the case, but he has not covered himself in glory here with his boorish behaviour.

That said, I don’t believe you can always blame the parents of adults for their shortcomings – we have no idea of Sir Bob’s relationships with his children.
I'm sure Geldof was a paragon of virtue and probity as his children were growing up, and in the relationship with his late wife. But that everything he utters in public is really only an "act" and nothing like the real caring kind man (other three word descriptions are available) he in fact is.
andy-hughes... I'm probably nit-picking, but, honestly, if you have to sing in public you lay off alcohol......it plays havoc with the vocal chords.

Not at all - but I would suggest that the vast majority of rock and pop musicians have imbibed something (in varying degrees) before they hit the stage, and their voices don't appear to suffer.

That depends how tone deaf the listeners are. A snarling contorted singer with a mike almost up his nose and under the influence of drink or drugs does nothing for the ear or understanding of the lyrics.
