Why will they have to come home?
Question Author
I think someone speaking on Radio 4 this morning implied this might happen.
Surely they've made Spain their home?
If they consider this country (UK) their home, then they won't have settled and surely would have come back before now?
Well, all the settlers that are here can go back home, then there will be room for the 300,000 Brits. No reception centres necessary.
Why would they have to back?

If we leave are we going to send all foreigners back to their homeland?

Far better for all concerned if we vote for 'no change'. Then nobody would need to up sticks and move.
I suspect 'remainers' would opt to imply all sorts of scare stories in the event of an exit. One ought not take them too seriously. They were claiming Europeans would have to return to their country of origin recently too.
^^ Because they do not want to stay as 'aliens' in another country, which is what they would be. At present they have the exact same rights in all matters as a native of the country they are living in that WILL change no matter what the 'leave' campaine says. Not just Spain , though that is the country of choice for the largest number of 'Brits', all of the EU. Over 1 .5 million people altogether and a high % will want to come back rather than face an uncertain future.
I know a good few people who either live in the EU or have family members who have moved to EU countries and they are all worried about the future if the UK votes to leave. They say it will be OK for a year or two but they worry about 10 ,20, or more years into the future. Most think they will eventually have to take citizenship of their country of residence if they want to stay long term. They want the right to return to the UK as full citizens if they have to and they can only be certain of that if we remain in the EU. Not one of them ever considered it a possibility that the UK would leave the EU! This has been a profound shock to them.
Far better for all concerned to stop implying lies in the hope of fooling folk into voting for the wrong option.
That will never happen Sandy, it would cause bedlam!!
^^ More chance of the EU floating into space and being swallowed by Jupiter than that!
That was to Old_Geezer's post
If they WANT to move nothing is stopping them but I can't anticipate many wanting to change where they live for something so small. Of course they can opt to adopt the nationality of the country of residence should they wish. As an aside it seems unbelievable that anyone could possibly be so short sighted as not to consider leaving the EU a possibility. Wishful thinking maybe.

" ere mate- I got wife and four kids and they aint had mcdonalds for weeks for chrissakes - give us five quid or sumfing !"

and the tree-hugging surrender bunny of a beeb reporter will ask Concerned Questions like:
" There is a lot of AIDS in southern spain - have you had your kids vaccinated before you come back ? "

and Tattoo will reply " Naaah - thats zika - and there aint none of vat in Spain ( yet) even tho aedes is present as a relevant insect vector and anyway there isnt a vaccine... twit "

sandy you are a narty narty bye .....
Perhaps all the EUSSR lovers and Remainians should move to Europe anyway.
sandyRoe's wooden spoon is busy again. Why anyone seriously responds to this is beyond me.

Eddie, //At present they have the exact same rights in all matters as a native of the country they are living in//

That's not strictly true.
Well, most of them will probably be too old to work in the fields, picking veg and fruit, to replace all the Eastern Europe workers who are doing that at present. All that bending and stooping may be a problem.

Also, its likely that a lot of these ex-pats will need the NHS, and that might prove a problem, especially if all the foreigners currently working in our healthcare systems are deported.

So, its a puzzler and no mistake.
You mean they may close the well integrated little pockets of England in Spain
I have spoken to some of these Ex-pats on previous occasions, and the main reason that they move to Benidorm, etc, is better weather, cheap booze and fags, and a good health care system, although a few have expressed a liking for Spain "as there aren't as many foreigners there " ( ! )

So, if they do have to return, they are not likely to be very pleased about it. I also understand that most of them that can vote, intend to vote STAY, for obvious reasons !
I doubt it's anything to do with booze and fags. The ex pats I've spoke to didn't mention booze and fags. It was all about the weather, the friendliness of people and the general lifestyle.
