Did anyone else see this? I know that in the past they have had some bizarre choices of subjects for rounds, but on tonight's show they had a round on Soaps - nothing out of the ordinary, you might think. But, some of the clues had me scratching my head though;

(Where were these soaps set?): Salem (1965 - ____) / Port Charles (1963 - ____) / Genoa City (1973 - ____)

I did manage to get Pobol Y Cwm, but the above three had me stumped (I did follow it to the end of the round, so I know the answers). I reckon that the majority of the people who watch Pointless might never have seen the above three soaps, and wouldn't have known them.

....and I have never thought of Dallas as a soap opera.
Nor were/are The Bill and The Archers soap operas! I did get 4 pointless answers in the final though!!!
They were US soaps not shown over here!
The Young and the Restless used to be broadcast on a very obscure Sky channel but wasn't very up to date I don't think. I used to watch them all when I lived abroad and still watch them when I visit my daughter (much to her chagrin)
?....and where did that bloke get the word 'loof'' from? Poor thing. I felt so sorry for him.
^He should have got Yoof. Morning tilly. x
Yeah, I said yoof.........and a lot of the proofs.
Morning, sweety.
Tilly2 - "loof" is a scots word meaning the palm of the hand. You can find it in Robert Burns' poem "There was a lad was born in Kyle" where, to predict his future, "The gossip keekit in his loof." (gossip = old wise woman, keekit = looked). The competitor was unlucky that they were using an English-biased dictionary; our "Chambers" dictionary certainly defines it.
