We went on a coach trip with U3A today. We went to Bristol to the Bristol Blue Glass factory. Very interesting watching them blowing and shaping the glass but the heat was immense. There were four furnaces on full blast. There were six men making things and they were continually drinking water and mopping brows. We all reckoned we had lost weight in there.
We had lunch at Wetherspoons then we had a boat trip around the docks. Very informative commentary. It was a really great day. Just thought I'd share my day!

My maternal grandfather started his working life as a water carrier in a bottle factory.
Sounds lovely Caran, glass blowing is amazing to watch.

It was interesting on how they got the colours by adding different elements.
I can't remember which one did what. But the ones that started out with pink eventually turned blue by spraying water on it. Absolutely fascinating. It didn't bother them if they got it wrong they just put it in a bin to be melted down again. They had only one original piece from the Bristol Blue Glass co. And that was worth £9000. This company was started in the 90' s and all their pieces are signed. I have about 20 pieces of blue glass but I was sadly disillusioned when they said they would all be fakes!
What shame yours are fakes, hope you like them anyway.

Marvel I love my pieces, bought them from many car boots and jumble sales over many years. Wouldn't part with them.
glad you had a good day Caran, thanks for sharing.
