Does anyone remember a childrens programme from years ago (roughly late 70's) it was Austrian or some such country. And basically it featured a man that went to a castle and there were loads of different princesses all with different, really wacky coloured hair. He falls in love with the one with "golden hair" and the upshot was that they all put hats and veils on and if he can guess which one is golden hair he can marry her. He then rescues a little talking fly from a spiders web and it flies round all the princesses and whispers which one is which (by looking under their veils without them knowing) (clever huh) God it was fantastic and honestly I haven't made it up! I would love a copy of it to watch again.

It was part of the BBC's Tales from Europe strand ( from which we had The Singing Ringing Tree ).

A lot of these films came from Germany, where they were made as children's feature films, but bought by the BBC and edited down to three episode with narration over the original dialog ( cheaper than dubbing ).

I don't remember Golden Hair clearly, but apparently the animals were all marionettes.

Only The Singing Ringing Tree and The Tinderbox have been released on DVD. And Snow White and Rumplestiltskin ( if that is how it is spelt ) on video tape.

Oh god - I remember that too. I was about to mention it was along the same lines as 'The Singing Ringing Tree', tonymc, but you beat me to it!

Was he imprisoned at the time he rescued the fly? It's coming back now - he first learns of Goldenhair when he overhears two birds on his windowsill arguing over a lock of her hair.

I can't remember how he gets the ability to hear animals talk, though.

Network Video released The Singing Ringing Tree.

May be we should bombard them with e-mails to look into releasing Goldenhair ( though there are often copyright problems ).

I remember this film and have never been able to find anyone who saw it or anything about it since i saw it about 25 years ago, i remeber the veils and the talking bees and the talking ants in the grass, it really seemed a lovely magical film and i would love to see it again, does anyone know if we can get hold of it?
