Oh my god, what happened to him ? That's awful. I must go and put the news on.

He had been out of Emmerdale since January due to ill health & it was doubtfull he`d return. Hard to believe he`d been in the series for 28 years & was the longest serving cast member. He was 63 years old.

Yes, I've just seen it now. Can't believe he hadn't been in Emmerdale since January. I hadn't even noticed.

Yes i've just heard, real shame, really liked him, Emmerdale wont be the same without him, watched it from the beginning. Thought with his family.

Used to watch Emmerdale when it was Emmerdale Farm.
Very sad. Seemed like a good guy.

yes he wasnt the original jack sugden, then when he did come into it he was an author then went away somewhere then came back a sheep farmer!!

Once and for all:
Clive Hornby was not the original Jack Sugden. The character was played by Andrew Burt between 1972 and 1976. When Jack then went to Italy to pen his novel, the character wasn’t seen in the series again until 1980 when Clive clinched the part
