Greatest Raid Ever

Just rewatched Clarkson's St Nazaire raid prog on bbc again, really inspiring stuff.

Some of the surviving commandos reckon today's youth would be just as brave and would do what they did in WW2 - that surprised me. Anyone else watch? Would you agree?

I suppose if the lads in Afghanistan and Irak are anything to go by, yes. I feel that if your country is threatened, it brings out a different level of bravery. I hope.

Yes I watched it, inspiring stuff indeed.

I suspect that the old commando might be referring to the special troops trained and deployed in the same way they were, and yes I would agree that many of our brave soldiers probably would do the same.

I doubt he meant the general populus, but then even in 1941 I doubt the general populus would have been quite so willing to make the same sacrifices as these unique people.

I agree the lads who are now out in Afghanistan and Iraq, would be and are just as brave.

At the start of World Wars 1 & 2 , the young Men some not even of the legal age, where queuing up to join up and fight.

I could not imagine the youth of today doing the same.
