John who?

Could anybody please tell me the name of the actor featured on a digital channel last night…Friday 27th June. First name John...He was a real life London gangster/ thug and led an appallingly violent life. He was lorded by the wealthy and rich, God knows why. It was a documentary about his life. Thank you.
