i've seen it and thought it was a very fine film. haven't read the book though.
I'm reading the book now, and can't put it down. I wouldn't want to see the film, in case it ruins it.
I read the book before the film came out. The film is good in the way that it includes all the major events in the books. However, a lot of the history and culture is left out otherwise the film would be about 4 hours long! The acting is good and the cinematography beautiful. However, the book is better simply because they cannot translate the culture onto the screen. I would see the film and hire it from blockbuster because surely you will rent other movies! For a truly amazing Asian movie, try House of Flying Daggers.
I say watch the film without comparing it to the book (that's always a mistake). I think anyone with good taste will like it a lot.
The film is definitely worth renting and I agree with CONFUSEDPINK-House of Flying Daggers is amazing. Make the most of your new blockbuster's membership and rent both!
I thought the book was fantastic and the film the same. It's extremely beautiful to watch...made we want to go to Kyoto.

It's great to see Hatsumomo come to life just as bitchy and twisted as she is in the book.

Definately rent it!!!
