In the fims, where they light the beacons to signal that the final battle is approaching, don't you find it amusing that at each beacon there is somebody constantly on guard, often in isolated locations, just waiting to light the beacon that they have obviously been attending over many years otherwise they would not light so readily. As Peter Jackson says in his commentary in the 4 disk version, he has this image of he post of beacon keeper being handed down from father to son just waiting for the day to light the beacon.

i saw no problem with it but i think that you might need to get out more ! ;-)
That would be standard practice when such things as phones didn't exist.
And what about the knight in The Last Crusade waiting a thousand years for Indiana Jones to come and take the Holy Grail - highly unlikely
