Has anyone seen this program? The families that feature on it are unbelievable. They want help to save money but are slaves to top brands because "they must be better" or say that they just buy the same brands that their parents always did, why? They never try anything different. Are they stupid or thick or both?

isnt stupid and thick the same thing?
Snobbery exists at all levels of society - you only have to look at the people on here who turn their noses up at Aldi because it's "a poor people's shop" ....
yes to all.
I am not one for brand names in clothing but sometimes you have to be more discerning. For instance, TV=Samsung, Vacuum =Meile, Boiler=Bosch
Does anybody know which app they were talking about, to log receipts? Didn't catch the name of it.
Dont start me on Aldi! I was derided by my friends for advocating their stuff years ago, but look whos shopping there now! It nice to get such a low price but generally the quality is higher too.
Same with cars. I am on my second Skoda (Superb and Octavia before) 10 years ago I was again derided by folk who would not be seen in a Skoda. Now look hows laughing! I have been smug for all that time!
I've been an Aldista for 15 years or more - it just gets better and better - even if the car park is occasionally infested with yummy-mummy chelsea-tractor drivers nowadays.
Yes but they also prove that on some things it is worth paying for the best or at least better than the cheapest!
The problem with Aldi, Mjw is that folk are realising that you get excellent quality for a very fair price......so the shop is getting busier and busier!

I've shopped in Aldi for years, first trying it because it's quiet and has no music playing....staying because of the quality.

Two Waitrose shopping friends scoffed at me for ages until he discovered his golfing pals shopped at Aldi and suddenly it became okay to shop there.... :-)
I've tried Aldi (not every single product, of course, but a wide range) and I think Waitrose is better. Just an opinion; but it's not snobbery.
Yes, islay - the trick is knowing what is worth paying extra for - but I suspect that everyone has their own list.

I'm fussy about some culinary things (eg Marigold Stock, Kenya Tea, Rachel's Greek Yogurt) and will pay over the odds for them - but toilet cleaner is ... toilet cleaner (with or without a duck on the bottle)
I have only watched one of these but thought exactly the same as you did dave.....they came over as spoilt kids.

Why would anybody go on prime time, just to look like a wassock ?
I think that to call somebody thick or stupid because that is how someone chooses to spend their money is highly rude!!
That couple last night obviously had a high income and it wasn't buying brands that was pushing them over their income but the amount they were buying!
Lol Mikey you come on here to look like a wassock!!
Sorry got in there before someone else could say it sweetie xx
Waitrose is lovely, jno - and I use it for some 'discretionary' shopping when I feel a bit self-indulgent.

But Aldi (and to a lesser extent Lidl) suit me better for the weekly run - and their aged rib-eye steak and free range chicken are better than any other supermarket regardless of price.
As long as you don't shop at Netto you can hold your head up high.
When someone says that they buy a very expensive item, rather than a cheaper item, because it must be a better item, then they are just showing how ignorant they are.

When people like that go onto prime time telly, then stupid is one of the words I would use. More money than sense.
mikey, very often in life you get what you pay for. It isn't always so, of course, particularly in the clothing sector. But there's a very strong likelihood indeed that a £10 bottle of wine will be better than a £5 one.
jno....that is a generalisation that can't possibly be proved or disproved.

But Lidl sell a Pinotage, that is 14.5% and cost less than £4:00. Its also extremely fruity and delicious.
Jackdaw - you'd have a job shopping in Netto, they closed down in the UK in 2016 in believe
My motto is 'never buy a brand name, never buy anything that is advertised'
I think that if it is such poor quality that it has to be advertised it can't be much good.
Stuff that is good will sell by word of mouth.
