Not sure which section to put this in but lets see how it goes here.
For all who get plagued by these unwanted and often abusive calls and are unaware of this, BT has just launched a new initiaitve called 'BT call protec't - it's a free service and can be checked out at bt.com/help/callingfeatures -I got it yesterday and so far haven't had any spam call (although it's early days yet) - bit involved to explain on here but all is explained on line.
Hope this helps a few people.

Thanks for the suggestion Mamylynne - as you can see I've followed your advice.
Thanks for a useful post, Rsvp.

Just to save people having to read through your link, here's a more direct one:

Signed up to this on day 1, only had 2 calls but reported them both. Very simple to do.
sorry my internet skills are a bit wanting. I dont want to make a full analysis oF the two systems but it looks as if BT Guardian is better. (I already have call protect on Talktalk. I dont find it foolproof and can be a bit fiddly to use

Don't apologise johnny37 - you are 'talking' to the original techno phobe - glad you've found a system that works for you, I hope my new call screener gets rid of the avalanche of calls I've been getting, some of them very abusive too - so far so good though and am keeping fingers crossed.
I signed up to the free BT service 2 weeks ago and haven't had any annoying calls since. Brilliant!
Question Author
I've had one since signing on about four days ago - from an 'unavailable number' so ignored it - much easier to do when the phone isn't ringing all the time -I used to get quite angry with the constant interruptions because I still had to check call display to see if I needed to pick up - agree, it's a great service and at the moment am delighted with the difference it's made.
If it's the same one I've got, if you answer a scam call (you do have to answer it), you can then
dial 1572 and block that number. I've had a few, and blocked them and not had any for quite a while now.

Oh thanks hellywelly4 - I obviously hadn't read the instructions - typical of me and will certainly do that if they call again. stay well
