What Are Your Memories Of Richard Beckinsale?

Died age 31 in 1979. Performed in Rising Damp, The Lovers, Porridge (tv and film), Going Straight and Bloomers. I am currently reading his life story due to watching repeats of Porridge. Had the looks and mannerisms (on and off stage) to have gone onto much greater things.

I had such a crush on him and was truly upset when he died, he was beautiful, especially in the Lovers

I remember The Lovers and his constant but unsuccessful quest for 'Percy filth'.

As a boy I still recall the first time I ever saw him, in A Family At War, a series that fascinated me as a 12 year old because it explained so much to me how things must have been for my grandparents during WW2.

I remember my Mum being really, really sad when he died, probably because she had kids of a similar age at the time.
