Because it shows they are workmen.

I had to read that twice, thought it was a name for fans of 'Carry on' films - sorry :-)

Sorry didn't know how best to describe them. It just seemed strange they have to wear a brown coat to do anything.

They usually wear flat caps as well Caran :-).

Must admit though, it does look a bit 1950s!

They are nervous of being on TV, so they wear something that doesn't show the stains.
