Passing the hardware section one picked up a sauceboat and made a remark in Polish to her companion who burst out laughing.
Are bourdalous still commonly used in their homeland?

Not for serving gravy, one would hope.
I have to admit, Sandy, that I did have to Google "sauceboat".
Hmmmph, Colonials ;-/

One of themm noticed me smiling. It's funny how humour can cross language barriers.
I have one of these sitting in the corner of my bedroom, it would be useless as a sauceboat but it's good for tossing loose change into.

"Not waving, but drowning"?
Question Author
1ozzy, local TV have been showing the Dr Blake Mysteries in the afternoons. Are they popular in Oz?
Question Author
I suppose a Lilliputian might drown in one if they accidentally fell in.
My wife loves them, Sandy. Her nearest connection to OZ is her sister in South Australia and her daughter and granddaughter in NZ.
The other Aussie import she likes is Neighbours. I can deal with Blake.
Quite popular Sandy. They have recently finished filming another series which will go to air next year on the ABC, our version of BBC.

Haven't watched it myself though.
I don't think you misunderstand my point about signals.
Neither did I ;-)

It passes a while. They've a good eye for period detail. TV there has come a long way since Skippy would squeak that someone had fallen down the disused mine workings and set their rescue in train.
A huge improvement, now if only shows like Neighbours & Home and Away would quietly slip off the radar. Absolute tripe they are.

If a mini-series called "The Secret River" is aired over there it's well worth watching.
Hi ozzy, just heading off now, but just to say, love the period pieces of Dr Blake and A place to call home. Really enjoyed secrets and lies and the slap? was that it?
Hi Bunkmoreland, yep, Secrets and Lies + The Slap, both were good watching.
I reckon they were taking the weewee sandy.
Question Author
And when they noticed me smiling it started them off again at the laughing.
