So I presume Strictly is live on the Saturday, the Sunday programme is recorded afterwards on the same evening. If anyone decides to vote ( does anyone, really?) are the lines open till Sunday evening, even though one celeb is voted out live the night before?

No. The lines are only open for about 45 minutes, it is made very clear at the end of the Saturday show what time the lines close.
It is all done on the Saturday, a few series back they did the result show later on the Saturday which was better as it spoils the results with everyone knowing before the Sunday show, do the BBC think we are imbeciles that we don't know the result show is recorded, all this what happened last night stuff is farcical.
The Beeb has never claimed the Sunday programme is live.
When we are watching the Sunday programme, referring to 'last night's' show is correct, it is indeed the programme we watched last night.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people moan about this year after year! Yes, Sunday's show is recorded - SO WHAT ??
