A another series where I am asking OH who's that? What's going on? I think I am too old to follow these deep dark programmes. Still don't really know what was happening.

Policeman gets shot and survives but the woman with him dies.
He retires from force, buys a big, rambling house in a remote area with his wife.
It's his birthday. His friend (he was his best man and colleague) arrives at rambling, remote house for the birthday party and persuades him to set up the house as a police safe house. He agrees and sets up security cameras etc in readiness.

Meanwhile...
A different family at funfair in Blackpool. The young boy is at a stand being watched by mum. Dad is at another stand near by. A man approaches boy and pretends to know him. Calls him by his name and asks if *Joe Bloggs* (can't think of his name) is his dad and a probation officer. The boy says he is and shakes the man's hand. Man runs off with him. Mom soon notices he is missing and shouts, then she and the dad (and boys's sister) run looking for Joe. They see him being carried off by the strange man! Chase after him out of the fair where strange man beats dad up. A van stops, driver gets out and tries to pull strange man off Joe's dad. He gets stabbed and later dies.

Police believe Joe's dad was the target because of his job and gets in to a safe house. That's right - the ex-policeman's remote and rambling house.

Also what confused me the goody and the baddy both had beards. There was also too many flashbacks.
The goodies should wear white hats and the baddies black ones. We knew where we were then.
I've just started watching it and am really pleased (not being sarky) that die one has summed it up for me - I was going to give up.
It has the makings of a decent 4 part drama. Anything with Eccleston in it is well worth the effort.
I forgot to mention the mystery of probation officer's eldest son who is supposed to be at university but isn't and is living rough.

Also we now know probation officer is suspended from duty but we don't know why.
Found it rather odd that in this safe house the curtains were not drawn when it was dark outside and the lights were on in downstairs rooms, such as the lounge, and the residents were occupying those rooms.
Especially with young Joe sat in the windows staring out. You'd expect blinds or nets at least.

See! I didn't even know he was a probation officer! Is there any hope left?
I thought he was a prison officer :(

Thanks sher, I did too!
Doh!!!! He is a prison officer. Sorry
Question Author
Now look! I am confused enough!

Another reason I got confused, there is a Christopher eccleston, I got this one muddled with doctor who!

Just watching paul O'Grady show, he referred to probation officer too weird.
I cant see the police putting a family in a safe house thats half a building site with no decent bedrooms, and nothing to do for the kids, video games etc.
