I visited this wonderful cathedral for the first time today. The newly restored stained glass in the Lady Chapel is superb and I am only slightly disappointed the the sun wasn't shining today so that I could see it in all its glory.
There are many outstanding features of this clearly much loved building butI was puzzled by one feature, namely, when viewed from the West end of the nave, which is where the main entrance is, the Lady Chapel does not appear to be in line with the quire and nave. (The East end of the Chapel seems to be a few degrees to the North of the true East- West line.)
Are there any Lichfield natives around - or anyone else for that matter - who can shed light on this please?

Not been for ages but it is still one of my favourite buildings.

Sorry Nova! I can't really give you "Best Answer" for that reply.

Looking at the floor plan, there seems to be a slight addition to the Lady Chapel, this could have occurred in any one of the restorations over the years.

I agree divebuddy - achingly beautiful.
By far and away the least provocative post in R&S for a long *** while, good job that man. I truly believe that the two best things to come out of religion are the buildings and the vibe of being nice to each other.
