Irrespective of what you might (in theory) put on them ...

Did anyone's pancakes turn out okay??

I had the stiff one, too much heat I think, bit dark brown on one side ...

Then the one that tore in the middle when I tried to turn it over ...

Then the one that was a bit thick, like an omelette ...

Then I added some more milk, to get around the thickness, and a bit more oil in the pan ...

And had the thin, oily one ...

Then a little one that only covered the middle of the pan ...

And then I ran out of pancake mix.

So, I tried ... but I didn't eat any of the pancakes I tried to make.

I suppose I can use the lemon for a gin and tonic.

I'm not sure what to do with the sugar. I never really use caster sugar. Perhaps Olive can take it.

Making pancakes sounds so easy, but it's really quite hard.

Oh Dear - What a load of crepe (sp?) .... :)
Mine turned out ok - except for the first one which always ends up in the bin. Got a bit fed up cooking them - took flipping ages because I had to make so many.

I'm copping out and taking the joint celebration of Shrove Tuesday and Chinese New Year and will have duck pancakes tomorrow or Thursday.

Good call, Eccles ... wish I'd thought of that.
It is the rule that you 'season' the pan by making a crappy crepe first.

You pour out any oil you've added to the pan before adding the batter (which should be roughly the consistency of single cream and thoroughly and quickly swished around the pan.

Single cream? Oh yikes ... mine was a bit more ... custardy ??
Look JJ you did your best & no one can better that. I personally love a tryer.
Question Author
Aww, thanks, WR.

It's true, I did try, didn't I. Now I feel better.
How long did you let your batter mix rest?
And must be fried in a little butter!

We don't do pancakes.
Question Author
Let it rest??
Yes, minimum of 15, preferably 30 - 60 minutes.
JJ - keep the caster sugar for the Wimbledon strawberries, it will still be OK.
