Where have I seen the Dowager Duchess's (Maggie Smith) new maid before (was her name Mrs Denker?) I'm sure she has been in a soap ............

It was Sue Johnson Ann, she was in Brookside and Corrie and The Royle Family amongst others x

Sue Johnson has added a touch of class to Downton...hope we see more of her in the future ...I am a great S J fan...she was simply wonderful in the Royal Family.

yes mallyh I think she must have done, I thought exactly the same, it took me a while to recognise her but I knew she looked familiar.

Maggie Smith plays the Dowager Countess, not Dowager Duchess.

I think she has had fillers in her cheeks, she certainly looks odd.

I love Maggie Smith (dowager countess) but if the series moves on a decade each time, inevitably they will have to make her die in the next series as she must be so old now. This will be such a shame as she is by far the best character.
