Thoroughly enjoyed this (short) series. Things ended very nicely for Jack Whicher. Great acting (as usual) from Paddy Considine. Have never met him but I know his mother-in-law. My claim to fame!

Even more interesting to watch knowing that the series is based on a true person. I read up about him on Wikipedia and found out Jack Whicher was actually one of the 10 first ever detectives at Scotland Yard!
Did Dickens base Insp Bucket in Bleak House on him ?

The wiki entry is a good read - spoiler - its pretty obvious from the start the girl has done it and the throwing away of the blood stained night gown is a castastrophic mistake

When she confesses in the confessional, there is such uproar in the country as it turns out to Anglican and not RC - that the archbish of C has to write to the Times reminding people that there are seven sacraments in the Anglican Church which includes ahem auricular confession.....

whether or not the 39 articles says there isnt.

I was hoping there were more books, but just one I think, featuring Jack Whicher. Shame.
And an added bonus is that the railway scenes were shot on one of Britain's foremost heritage railways - the Bluebell Railway in East Sussex.
