Trains From Ramsgate Kent To St Barts Hospital Ondon

Can anybody advise me on train transport, i need to get from Ramsgate Kent to St Barts hospital Whitechapel London but i dont want to use the underground as i have a fear of them, is this possible please. Any help aprreciated. Thank you

Ramsgate to St Pancras International by train, then 205 bus from the adjacent King's Cross station (toward Bow Church) and alight at Shoreditch, then Overground from there to Whitechapel.

What you need to establish first is which hospital you are attending.

The “Barts Health” NHS Trust encompasses six hospitals including St Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. St Bartholomew’s (popularly known as “Barts”) Hospital is not at Whitechapel but is very close to Smithfield Market (in fact, about half way between Smithfield and the Old Bailey). If it really is Bart's you want to go to then Ramsgate to London Bridge is the way to go. Change there (same platform, No 6) to a St. Albans/Luton/Bedford bound train for three stops to Farringdon. It is a short walk from there (about 5 mins) to Bart’s. Anybody will direct you via Cowcross Street, through the market and down Giltspur Street.

If it is the Royal London Hospital you are attending then mushroom’s route is good enough. Personally I would travel from Ramsgate to London Bridge, walk across to Borough High Street (south side of London Bridge itself). From there catch a No 40 bus to St Botolph Street and from there you can catch a No 25, 205 or 254 to the Royal London. The reason I suggest this alternative is because some parts of the Overground are former Underground routes and the Shoreditch-Whitechapel stretch is one of them. It is not “deep level” but I don’t know what your fear of the tube system involves.

If it`s Mushrooms route ive got to take i will never do it as ive never been to London on my own, Im going to have to hitch a lift i reckon, as will be myself and my daughter. x

in that case, train Ramsgate to Stratford International. From there by public transport would be quite difficult, but it's less than 4 miles so only 20mn and relatively inexpensive in a cab.

Tricky & a palaver without the underground.A direct train to London bridge or Cannon St then a cab. The train takes 20-40 minutes longer but there’s no changes to get on the HS1 (saving the extra time) and you’ll save a good few quid on the train fare if there’s 2 of you.

There are no changes with mushroom's suggested route, jon. Trains run hourly from Ramsgate to St. Pancras via Stratford using HS1with no changes.

There are a couple of considerations. The off peak return fare via HS1 is £76 as against about £45 to London Bridge (cheaper advance fares may be available but I imagine the HS1 route will always be more expensive). Time saving is also a bit more than you quote. To Stratford it is about 1:10mins, to London Bridge at best it is 1:40 and may take around 2 hours depending on the service taken

One last thing tamirra ought to consider is the problem with underground trains. Much of the HS1 route to between Ebbsfleet and Stratford International is in lengthy tunnels. If it is tunnels that are the problem (rather than tube trains as such) it may be a consideration.
