Have you seen the film adrift ?

I watched the last third , or so of it the other night .

Apparently it is based loosely on a true story.

The plot is not complex , however it's the horrifying, human banality of the premise - '' You forgot to put the ladder down!” - and sheer desperation that builds excruciating tension, minute after helpless minute.

Oh , and the haunting sound of the crying baby

Do you agree ?

Yes, I've seen this film and it chilled me to the bone. I could only imagine the young Mum's horror at not being able to reach her crying baby and letting loose her dead husband to drift out to sea. And their pain when that boat sailed past, not stopping and realising their terrible plight.

Hi viv

I've not seen the whole of the film , so i was not aware that a ship sailed by - how harrowing .

Like so many things in life - the ommision of a simple thing can cause such tragedy .
In this case , a simple thing as not thinking about lowering the ladder , before they all dived into the sea .

I didn't quite get the ending though - can you explain ?
It seems that the man who felt responsible because he forgot the ladder and lied that he owned the boat, but didn't, couldn't cope with the guilt that all but one of the others had died and after managing to get the young Mum back on board, drifted away and didn't climb back on after she released the steps. She then jumped back in to save him, but the next morning when they showed the fishing boat circling them. it seemed he was lying dead on deck!

There is a similar film called Open Water about a young couple left behind after a scuba diving trip - equally harrowing and also based on a true story -have you seen that?
